Welcome to our first Guroo Learning Graduate Program participants!

| 3 Min Read

In the last few weeks, Guroo have been proud to welcome the first members of the Guroo Learning Graduate Program, an opportunity for recent graduates or people looking for a change in their career to develop their learning design skills through hands-on experience scoping, designing, and developing learning for a wide range of organisations and learners.

We spoke to the first group of participants in the program to find out what attracted them to the program and how they are applying their unique perspectives to learning development.

Welcome Colette Walsh

What attracted you to the Guroo Learning Graduate Program?

Coming from an education background, I was initially attracted by Guroo Learning’s learner-centric approach to education, which resonated with my own values as an educator. The Guroo Learning Graduate Program impressed me with its structured approach to learning design and the opportunity to contribute to real-life projects from the outset.

How has learning had a positive impact on your life?

Learning has fueled my passion for, and knowledge about, too many fields to list! I am always seeking to build my learning capacity.

What is your special skill and how does it shape what you do?

My special skill is absorbing new information and reconfiguring it to make it readily understood by others. I have used this skill every day as a teacher, a learning designer, or even when talking to friends about the latest interesting thing I have discovered.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

I am a morning person. I love getting up early and working out before most people are awake. I find it peaceful, and it sets me up for a positive day ahead. Also, an alarm!

Welcome Gina Smith

What attracted you to the Guroo Learning Grad Program?

Guroo Learning caught my attention as a company because of their innovative philosophy of learning and how they foster engaging learning experiences through technology. Learning design has been an interest of mine for a while now, however, I was unsure of how to get into the field. This was until I saw the opportunity to join the Guroo Graduate Program. I had to jump at this opportunity as it was an exciting opening to support a new career change and to evolve my skills as a Learning Designer.

How has learning had a positive impact on your life?

A teacher once said to me; “If you feel uncomfortable, that means you are going outside of your comfort zone and are truly learning from your experience”. This saying has stuck with me since, and now I try to seek new experiences and activities to push myself out of my comfort zone to continue learning and developing as a person.

What’s your special skill - and how does it shape what you do?

I believe my special skill is my organisational skills. I like to have a checklist and calendar of due dates to help me feel settled about completing tasks on time. This allows me to prioritise work and effectively complete tasks before they are due.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

Every day is a chance to learn something new. I wake up excited knowing that my perspectives will be challenged, or I get the chance to try something new, or to educate myself on a topic I have not explored. You truly feel alive when these experiences happen.

Welcome Kayla Lee

What attracted you to the Guroo Learning Grad Program?

Guroo Learning Grad Program not only offered a rare opportunity for graduates to learn a wide range of transferable skills, but also a great chance to work with companies in a variety of industries.

How has learning had a positive impact on your life?

Learning has always given me a purpose, whether that was personal satisfaction or preparing for future career goals, learning gave me confidence and motivation.

What’s your special skill - and how does it shape what you do?

My special skill is a good understanding of nuances in language. It always pushes me to think of a better way to set the tone of the language I am using.

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

The things I will be doing for the day - both small and big things and both personal and work-related things.
